ORANGEBURG — South Carolina State University’s Board of Trustees voted to hire Thomas Elzey as the school’s next president today.
Elzey currently serves as executive vice president for finance, administration and operations at The Citadel.
Elzey had the vote of six of the 11 board members.
Interim president Dr. Cynthia Warrick was a write-in candidate. She had five votes.
The presidential finalists were Elzey; E. Newton Jackson of the University of North Florida; and Leonard A. McIntyre of S.C. State.
