“Pop-up” restaurants are a hot dining trend, but they’re old hat to the Charleston tradition of tea rooms.

A popular downtown tea room will spring into action Monday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. The tea room will operate 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. daily through April 26 in the Parish Hall at Church and Cumberland streets.

Lowcountry luncheon favorites will return, such as “Charleston Receipts” okra soup, classic chicken salad and shrimp salad.

Desserts, made by parishioners, include Hummingbird Cake, Grand Marnier Cheesecake and Huguenot Torte as well as a variety of other options.

Guests may eat inside to the sounds of live piano music or outside in the courtyard or on the veranda. Takeout lunches also are available with delivery provided to downtown locations. Call 722-7291 to place an order.

Additionally, homemade items, baked goods and St. Philip’s souvenirs will be sold in the tea room gift shop, and the sanctuary and grounds of the church will be open for tours.

Proceeds from the tea room benefit St. Philip’s foreign and home missions, St. Philip’s choirs, and junior and senior high youth ministries.
