Charleston sculptor Hirsch topic of talk by daughter
Jane Hirsch, daughter of premier Charleston sculptor Willard Hirsch, will be at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet at 2 p.m. Thursday, to talk about her father and his art and to sign copies of her book, “Art is a Powerful Language: Willard Hirsch: the Man, the Artist.”
Hirsch also will appear at the Movable Feast Luncheon, sponsored by Litchfield Books on Pawleys Island, at 11 a.m. May 3 for a luncheon followed by a 2 p.m. book signing at the store, 11421 Ocean Highway, Unit D.
Published by Home House Press, the book is a companion to a comprehensive exhibit of his work that traveled to Brookgreen Gardens from the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston. The exhibition will be at Brookgreen Gardens through April 21. For information, call 235-6000 or visit www.brookgreen.org.

Gigantic Book Sale planned for Summerville Library
Friends of the Summerville Library is hosting the Gigantic Book Sale on May 3-5. The sale features previously owned books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and videos.
A members-only preview is slated for 3-5 p.m. May 3 at the Summerville Library, 76 Trolley Road.
The sale opens to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 4 and 1-5 p.m. May 5. On May 4, coffee, hot chocolate and doughnuts will be for sale.
