116 S. Battery St. — Striking house from roaring ’20s pairs downtown elegance with modern spiffs

For good reason, peninsula Charleston’s southern tip is a must-see for visitors, claiming many of the best-known and significant homes in the city.
Yet the five-block triangle south of Broad Street is not solely a litany of colonial, post Revolutionary and antebellum houses framed by live oaks and magnolias.
An observer can stroll along lanes and alleys encountering residences from all sorts of time periods. In keeping with Charleston’s flair for preserving architectural signatures no matter the era, some of the more distinguished houses between East Battery and Broad were built in the 20th century.
Arguably one of these prominent houses is 116 S. Battery St.. a regal 3,578-square-foot brick home with original hardwood floors and custom wrought-iron gates.
The four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath residence is for sale for $2,399,000.
“The house was built in 1925 (and) maintains charm and character,” says Helen Butler, Realtor with Disher, Hamrick & Myers in Charleston who is the home’s listing agent.
