A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the tri-county area until 3:45 p.m.
A cold front is headed for the Lowocuntry and with it will come an increased chance of lightning and thunderstorms, the National Weather Service reports.
Storms this afternoon won’t be as severe as the conditions that triggered tornado watches in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester counties overnight, meteorologist Emily Timte said.
The severity of today’s weather conditions is expected to diminish over time, Timte said, but the Lowcountry could see some stronger storms and gusty winds.
Today’s highs will be in the low 80s with lows in the mid 50s, according to the Weather Service.
Southwest winds tonight will be from 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Saturday: Sunny skies are expected with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Southwest winds will be from 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday: Sunny skies are expected in the morning with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Southeast winds will be from 10 to 15 mph.
