Joseph and Dolly Awkar plan to open a new Lebanese restaurant called Leyla at 298 King St. in the former Sushi Hiro and short-lived Izakaya Ramen space, according to Jim Moring with RestaurantBrokers.info.
Dolly Awkar, a professor of Arabic language at the College of Charleston, said the aim is to open by July 1. Her husband is an entrepreneur who imports Lebanese food products. They plan to continue their current jobs, but maintain a hands-on approach to the dining business. A chef from Los Angeles will be joining the restaurant.
Seppy's Hotdogs opens Saturday at 1537-D Ben Sawyer Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, adding to the frankfurter cluster in that part of town. The grand opening is from noon to 3 p.m. Look for 17 kinds of hot dogs on the menu.
Other hot dog vendors in that area include two stalwarts: Skoogie's at 840 Coleman Blvd., and Johnny's Hot Dogs at 883 Ben Sawyer.
Charleston-born Edward Bess, a former model who was raised in Lake City and now lives in New York, will introduce a new cosmetic line in his first appearance on QVC at 10 p.m. Friday.
Bess started with lipstick six years ago at Bergdorf Goodman and now has a full array of cosmetics under his name. His QVC line is Complexion Correcting Mousse Foundation, an extension of the Edward Bess Black Sea line. Edward Bess is sold in Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Sephora and Colette in Paris.
The Charleston area's first Steak 'n Shake restaurant is being built at 4821 Tanger Outlet Blvd. near Crowne Plaza Hotel in North Charleston.
The Vintage Swag in Summerville recently relocated to 140-C W. Richardson Ave. It features vintage finds, antiques, ornamental ironwork and upcycled inventions. Jill Jones is the owner.

Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston will feature a food truck event Saturday and Sunday.
Celebrity chef Curtis Stone will host a live cooking demonstration and sign autographs from 1-3 p.m. Saturday while food trucks will be set up 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
The “Taste and Style” event will feature live music both days, a cooking demonstration by Chef Miles Huff of the Culinary Institute of Charleston at noon Saturday, kitchen collection demonstrations, spring fashion event at 2 p.m. Sunday and door prizes.
