MOUNT PLEASANT--The Bishop England girls’ lacrosse team upset No. 1 seed Wando, 15-13 today to win its first Lower State championship since the sport was sanctioned by the High School League four years ago.
The Bishops will play either J.L. Mann or Fort Mill in the state championship. The state championship will be contested at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Knoll High School.
Today’s victory was the Bishops’ first over Wando in three games. The Warriors posted 14-12 and 12-10 victories in the regular season. But the third game was the one that mattered most as the Bishop improved to 15-4 and ended Wando’s bid for its second state championship in three years. It marked the second straight year the Warriors’ season ended in the Lower State championship.
