Charleston County won’t be banning texting while driving

Charleston County won’t be banning texting while driving after a County Council discussion on the matter last week drew little support.

Councilman Joe Qualey, who asked that the discussion be placed on the Finance Committee agenda, said the group might consider passing a resolution to support a state-level ban at its next Finance Committee meeting.

The General Assembly this year is considering a bill that would ban texting while driving statewide. Similar proposals failed last year.
