The City of Charleston committee in charge of transportation issues doesn’t want to re-address $5 downtown cab rides.

City Council’s Traffic and Transportation Committee said the $5 fee for rides on the peninsula came after long study, and officials didn’t want to re-face the matter after every complaint.

Some cabbies say the set charge is too small to make money in the current economy.

The committee briefly addressed the matter this afternoon before City Council met.

Rides on the peninsula have a set fee as opposed to meter rates going to West Ashley or North Charleston.
