PINEHURST, N.C. — The College of Charleston women’s golf team finished second at the Pinehurst Challenge at the Pinehurst Resort No. 6 Course.
The Cougars carded a three-round score of 39-over-par 903 (294-303-306), four strokes behind Richmond (899) and one better than Penn State (904). Charleston Southern tied for 12th with St. John’s at 938.
The Cougars’ Vanessa Koechli, who led after 36 holes, finished 8-over 224 for the tournament and in a three-way tie for fifth. Julia Neumann finished in a five-way tie for eighth at 225, while Kathy Boehm was tied for 15th (+11).
Caroline Lovette of Richmond earned individual medalist honors, shooting even par in the final round to finish at 3-over 219. Harin Lee of St. John’s finished in second at +5.
The Cougars will next travel to the Southern Conference championship on April 14-16 in Hilton Head Island.
In Morganton, N.C., The Citadel shot a 123-over-par 699 over two days to finish 11th of 12 teams at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. Freshman Eraina Manor fired a 162 (+18) and finished in a four-way tie for 33rd.
Host Appalachian State won with a 610 (+34).

College of Charleston swept a doubleheader from Canisius, 11-0 and 7-0, at Patriots Point. Hope Klicker and Stephanie Saylors both threw shutouts.
Lizzy Vaughn went 5 for 7 and scored three times for the Cougars (17-15), who are at Samford on Saturday. Kelsey Hodgson and Rebecca Mueller both drove in three RBIs, and Carly Corthell belted her second home run of the season.
Coastal Carolina launched seven home runs, sweeping a doubleheader against Charleston Southern at the CSU Softball Field, 11-3 and 11-2. Stephanie Sbardella and Hayes Holdsworth homered for the Buccaneers (6-31, 0-11 Big South), while Morgan Node led the way for Coastal Carolina (22-13, 9-2) with two home runs.
The Buccaneers host Canisius at 2 p.m. today in a nonconference doubleheader.
