State Law Enforcement Division agents, Mount Pleasant police and firefighters are investigating whether an area church was twice targeted by arsonists in less than a month’s time.
On March 10, while leaving a service, members of Palmetto Presbyterian Church noticed fire damage on one of the building’s side doors, at 1720 Carolina Park Blvd., police said.
Fire damage was found on the church’s exterior again on March 29. This time, the damage was more extensive, covering the church’s front mahogany doors with soot and burning the shrubbery that lined the building, police said.
SLED agents were asked to investigate the origin of each fire. The incidents are still under investigation, spokesman Thom Berry said.
Palmetto Presbyterian Church has been at its Carolina Park Boulevard location since January of 2010, Pastor Michael Fitze said.
