A $1.7 million expansion of Pepperhill Park in North Charleston has been completed, adding a new football and soccer field to the recreation complex, as well as expanded parking.

The park at 7695 Brandywine Road serves residents in the Ashley Phosphate Road area, hosting youth athletic programs year-round. Mayor R. Keith Summey and City Council members are scheduled to hold a rededication ceremony at the park Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The park already had three fields for baseball and softball, and the renovations added a building with a press box, concession stand, restrooms, and a meeting room.

The first major event at the park this year will be the Opening Day Jamboree for the 2013 Youth Baseball/Softball season on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
