A Johns Island man was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of stabbing another during a fight over a woman that played out in the middle of a street.
Aaron Terrell Brown, 20, of Yost Lane faces a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. The felony count carries up to 20 years in prison.
Heavenly Windsong Kelly, 22, of Chisolm Road, suffered critical injuries in the scuffle about 1:35 a.m.
An arrest affidavit stated that Kelly and a woman were driving to a home on Island Estates Drive when they noticed that Brown was following them.
Brown then used his vehicle to block Kelly’s, the document stated. Brown hit Kelly’s window, then punched Kelly after he got out of the car, according to the affidavit. Kelly fought back.
At some point, Brown revealed a 4- to 6-inch switchblade and stabbed Kelly, the affidavit alleged. Kelly bled from the neck and chest.
Both men left in their vehicles. Kelly later showed up at Roper St. Francis Hospital in West Ashley, where he underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.
Loved ones who attended a bail hearing for Brown on Friday afternoon cried and said that the two had been battling over a woman. Brown said he had acted in self-defense. His bail was set at $100,000.
He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor marijuana possession in July.
