A 5-month-old child who was in critical condition last month with a severe head injury was released from the hospital and placed in foster care, Hanahan police said.
The boy’s father Derek Allan Stilson, 23, of Murray Drive is accused of slamming his son on the living room floor out of anger when he wouldn’t stop crying on Feb. 19, police said.
The act caused the child to be hospitalized with a fractured skull and blood behind his retinas, police said.
Stilson is charged with infliction of great bodily injury to a child. He was held at the Berkeley County jail in lieu of a $250,000 bail, court records show.
Stilson and the boy’s mother Rachael Felicia Enciso, 30, were also charged with unlawful conduct toward a child when doctors discovered a fracture to the boy’s left leg that went untreated and had already begun to heal, police said.
A judge set bail at $20,000 for both parents on that charge, according to court records.
