Charleston Battery midfielder Ryan Richter has been transferred to Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC.
Richter played 29 games, logging 1,792 minutes with the Battery in 2012 and finished the season with two goals and four assists. Richter started all three of the Battery’s post-season games including the title game against the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Richter was originally drafted as the 5th-overall pick in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft by Philadelphia Union, but was subsequently loaned to the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO and, ironically, made his professional debut the Charleston Battery on June 4 in a Harrisburg, 1-0, victory.
Richter is the second player from the 2012 Battery squad to move up to MLS joining goalkeeper Alec Kann, who was signed by the Chicago Fire.
