North Charleston police have arrested a man and charged him with shooting a beer delivery driver outside a convenience store on Monday.
Melvin Smalls III, 26, of Deep Blue Lane in North Charleston, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor.
Smalls was arrested Wednesday night, Pryor said.
Smalls is accused of shooting 24-year-old David Scott Jr. of Goose Creek, who was taken to Medical University Hospital, where he was expected to recover. His uncle told The Post and Courier after the shooting that Scott is a soldier preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
When police arrived at the Neighbor Store at 1740 E. Montague Ave., officers found Scott bleeding in the back bed of the Budweiser truck.
Smalls’ bail hearing is scheduled for this afternoon.
