A Charleston County father and son increased their chances at some lottery money by cashing in tickets that were stolen from a convenience store last month, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Their winning streak came to an end Monday when they were arrested and booked into the Charleston County jail.

Johnnie F. Hodges Jr., 54, and Scott M. Hodges, 20, both of Spring Grove Road in Adams Run were charged with falsely uttering or passing a lottery ticket.

Somebody broke into the D&V Convenience Store at 8008 Savannah Highway Feb. 22 and stole five rolls of lottery tickets, according to the incident report. The burglary is under investigation, Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said.

The father and son are charged with cashing in stolen tickets. They drove up Savannah Highway the day after the burglary and cashed in 53 tickets at five stores, according to investigators.

Johnnie Hodges is being held on $20,000 bail and his son on $15,000 bail.
