A North Charleston man faces DUI-related felony charges after a Saturday morning wreck that killed his female passenger and injured an infant and toddler who were in the back seat, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 9:15 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 26 near the Highway 78 interchange in North Charleston.
Johnathan Michael Greene, 30, of Russelldale Avenue in North Charleston, has been charged with felony DUI involving death, felony DUI involving great bodily injury, and two counts of child endangerment.
Police said Greene was heading east on I-26 in a 2000 Buick when the car went off the highway, down an embankment, and struck a tree.
Front-seat passenger Haley Branham, 29, was seriously injured in the wreck and died about four hours later at Medical University Hospital, according the Charleston County Coroner’s Office and police.
An infant under the age of 1 and a 3-year-old, both of whom were in the back seat, also were taken to MUSC, police said.
Further information about their injuries or condition was unavailable, and police did not provide their names or explain any relation they may have to the adults in the car.
Police did not say if Greene was injured, but on Saturday afternoon he was booked into the Charleston County jail.
