Charleston Black Expo

This 14th annual trade show will feature exhibitors and vendors from minority-owned businesses and large corporations, along with seminars, entertainment and food. The Gospel Best Showcase will be hosted by BET’s Bobby Jones and will feature Alexis Spight of “Sunday’s Best” as a judge. The event also will feature appearances by Gamecocks football star Marcus Lattimore and Paul Carrick Brunson of the OWN network, and performances by the OMG Girlz and R&B sensation Avant.

Taste of Black Charleston

This second annual event will feature a fun-filled evening of culinary delights and tasty libations served by area caterers, chefs and restaurants. The upscale event will feature chef Daniel Thomas and live entertainment by violinist Daniel D, saxophonist Davone Gary, singer and guitarist Faith Cyn, and the Horizon Band. Hosted by Jack and Jill of Greater Charleston, the event is co-sponsored by Ciroc and Crown Royal Black. The event serves as a fundraising initiative for a local charity.

Chefs’ Feast

This black-tie optional event is led by chef Robert Carter of Carter’s Kitchen and will feature nearly 30 of the area’s top chefs dishing out sweet and savory bites. Meet some of the Lowcountry’s celebrity chefs as they serve up their signature dishes and indulge in a hosted bar as you enjoy live big band music from the Ray Michaels Band. This 14th annual event is held in collaboration with the Lowcountry Food Bank and benefits the Kids Cafe and BackPack Buddies.

Charleston Tells Storytelling Festival

This inaugural storytelling festival will bring together some of the best in the nation and locally. Featuring everything from folktales to ghost tales, there will be numerous performances that are all about inspiring, amusing and delighting the audience with stories that reminisce about childhood. On Saturday, there will be multiple concurrent performances scheduled, including special programs designed for the whole family.

Dancing With the ARK’s Stars

Based on the popular TV hit “Dancing With the Stars,” Dancing With the Ark’s Stars is a competition that pairs eight local “celebrities” with professional dancers as they vie for the mirror ball trophy. The event includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and silent auction. This third annual dance contest raises money for The ARK Alzheimer’s Family Support Services, a nonprofit that provides respite care and offers support groups.

‘You’re The One That I Want’

Brad and Jennifer Moranz, the folks who bring Broadway to Charleston, are presenting a new show called “You’re the One That I Want.” It will feature some of the best songs of the ’50s, including “Rock Around the Clock,” “Summertime Blues,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “Tutti Frutti,” “All Shook Up” and more. And if you’re feeling so inclined, “Grease” your hair back and put on your “Blue Suede Shoes” for this rock ’n’ roll revue.

Girls Rock Charleston fundraiser

Girls Rock Charleston is a nonprofit organization that empowers girls through music education, DIY media and creative collaboration. Find out what’s on the agenda for 2013 at this event, which will act as the group’s first fundraiser of the year. Slated to perform are Shirlette Ammons, Sookee and Southern Femisphere. There also will be a raffle featuring a new T-shirt design. The event is for ages 21 and up.
