A Walterboro gun shop employee shot himself in the foot while handling a pistol on Thursday.

Officers were dispatched to Colleton Memorial Hospital shortly before 4 p.m. concerning a man being treated for a gunshot wound.

The wounded man told police he accidentally shot himself in the foot while clearing a pistol brought in by a customer at Walterboro’s Gun Shop, 428 South Jefferies Blvd.

The gun shop is the same store where Alice Boland, 28, bought the pistol she is accused of pointing at an Ashley Hall official and pulling the trigger.

The weapon was loaded, but did not fire because a cartridge was not loaded in the chamber.
