Chas. Southern 8, Savannah State 4
Charleston Southern’s Alex Tomasovich and Harrison Wilkins each homered as the Bucs scored eight runs in the first four innings and held off Savannah State, 8-4, on Tuesday at CSU Ballpark.
The Bucs had five extra-base hits early to start their six-game homestand on a high note.
Charleston Southern (6-6) led 8-2 through six innings before the Tigers (9-3) rallied. Austin Weekley came in to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and finished for his second save.
The Tigers loaded the bases on Weekley in the ninth on an error and a pair of soft singles, but he induced a pop-up to end the threat.
Stephen Leopard (1-1) allowed one earned run in 31/3 innings of relief. He struck out three with no walks.
Tomasovich went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Charleston Southern hosts College of Charleston on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
