Charleston Southern senior forward Lakeitha Alston was named to the All-Big South Conference team Monday, while junior center Carra Coy was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.
Alston leads the Buccaneers in scoring (15.7 ppg) and rebounds (6.5 rpg).
Alston, the program’s leader in games played (120), sits among the team’s all-time leaders in field goals made, field goals attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted, rebounds and blocked shots.
Coy is a communications major with a minor in biology, carrying a 3.88 grade point average and has twice been named to the Dean’s List.
No. 10 seed Charleston Southern opens up the Big South tournament at noon Wednesday against No. 7 Longwood in the first round in Conway.
Winthrop junior Dequesha McClanahan was named Big South player of the year for the second straight year, while Presbyterian’s Ronny Fisher was voted coach of the year.
Winthrop center Schaquilla Nunn was named freshman of the year. High Point center Cheyenne Parker repeated as defensive player of the year for and Karlee Taylor of Presbyterian was scholar-athlete of the year.
