The College of Charleston coed sailing team earned a No. 1 national ranking as Sailing World’s college rankings were announced on Wednesday.

The Cougars received six first-place votes to tie Georgetown for top billing with 338 points each in the first national rankings of the 2013 spring season. They were previously ranked No. 3 in the final fall rankings released in November.

The Cougars also climbed to No. 7 in the women’s rankings.


Senior Odie Delaney was named Southern Conference wrestler of the week for the third straight time and league-record eighth overall.

Delaney went 3-0 with a pin and a major decision on the week, leading the Bulldogs to a 2-1 team showing. The winner of 14 consecutive matches, Delaney is ranked 13th in the nation.


Charleston Southern sophomore Mulern Jean was named Big South women’s indoor track athlete of the week. Jean ran a school-record 7.85 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles at the South Carolina Invitational. She tied for first in the event.


Wendy Gee shot low gross for the monthly CALGA tournament at Wild Dunes’ Links Course with an 84, while Trish Doerner had low net at 66.
