Free screenings available at health fair
On Saturday, a consortium of organizations spearheaded by the Tri-County Black Nurses Association is sponsoring the annual Health and Wellness Fair, also known as the Delma Woods/Aleta McLeod-Bryant Health & Wellness Fair.
The location of the event, to be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m., will be the Arthur W. Christopher City Gym, 265 Fishburne St. downtown.
Screenings at the fair include blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, body mass index, sickle cell anemia, HIV, vitamin D and weight.
Participants with abnormal readings will be provided counseling by on-site health care professionals.
Participants without a medical provider will be referred to local community health centers, based on where they reside.
Organizers also have plans to present health information on medication safety, health care, the Affordable Care Act, domestic violence, depression, sexual dysfunction and Alzheimer’s disease.
Financial planning information will be offered by the YWCA.
