A Goose Creek man was caught stealing lumber from a construction site while he was hauling some of the materials to his vehicle, according to police.

Yesterday around 10 p.m., Elias Bryan, 46, of Harbour Lake Drive, parked a sports utility vehicle in front of a construction site at Pimmit Place in Ladson, where he stole lumber and roofing paper, a North Charleston Police Department incident report stated. The SUV was stashed with $10,000 worth of lumber and $1,000 worth of roofing paper, the report said.

A security guard saw the SUV parked in front of a house under construction. He took the keys out of the ignition and later found Bryan walking on the street with two boards on his shoulders, according to the incident report.

The security guard ordered Bryan to the ground and detained him, the report stated. Once police arrived, Bryan provided a false name, according to police.

While investigators were patrolling the area, they found a second suspect, Percy Jones, 31, of Abigail Street in Moncks Corner, and charged him with grand larceny. Police charged Bryan with grand larceny, providing false information to police, and simple possession of marijuana.
