Playing at home for the first time in more than a month was not enough to help The Citadel basketball team snap its losing streak.
The Bulldogs lost by 72-55 to Western Carolina tonight at McAlister Field House, the Bulldogs’ eighth straight loss. The skid started in The Citadel’s last home game, a 74-61 loss to Radford on Nov. 24.
Trey Sumler scored 17 points and former Charleston Southern player Tom Tankelewicz added 14 points for Western Carolina (5-10, 3-0 Southern Conference). The Citadel, led by 10 points each from Marshall Harris and P.J. Horgan, dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon.
The Bulldogs had a couple of new names in the lineup, as freshman guard Rae Robinson and Horgan, a sophomore forward, both played for the first time this season.
Robinson sat out the first 11 games after breaking a bone in his foot during the preseason. Horgan, 6-8, was slated to redshirt this season, but the loss of sophomore C.J. Bray (ankles) altered that plan. Bray will now take a medical redshirt, while Horgan provides frontcourt depth.
The Citadel hosts Chattanooga on Thursday, the second of four straight home games.
