A teen has been charged with arson after fire gutted a home near Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.
Raheim Bradley, 18, of Boston Grill Road was arrested today and charged with third-degree arson. Investigators say he set fire to a house at 2769 Rifle Range Road.
Bradley is being held in the Charleston County jail. A bond hearing is expected at 9 a.m. Friday.
A neighbor told deputies she saw a young man wearing dark clothes and a hoodie toss something through the front door of the house just before the fire broke out, according to the incident report from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. The neighbor said she saw something flash inside the house and smoke start pouring out, then saw the young man run off toward Jefferson and Boston Grill roads. She called 911 to alert firefighters.
A crew from the Awendaw Fire Department arrived at the single-story cinder-block house near Porchers Bluff Road at 4:45 p.m., according to Chief Tommy Norris. They saw flames inside and smoke pouring out from under the roof. The blaze gutted the interior, he said.
Another witness identified the young man in the hoodie as a young man named “Raheem” who lived on Boston Grill Road, according to the incident report.
Red Cross volunteers arrived on scene to provide temporary housing, money to replace food and clothing lost in the fire, comfort kits and referrals to partner agencies. The agency said four adults lived in the house.
