Sue was physically abused by her partner for more than five years. She has since decided that her two children deserve a home free of abuse and has evicted her abuser.

She works long hours to protect and provide for her family on one income, spending 10 to 12 hours a day, five to six days a week away from home trying to earn a decent living to make sure her children’s basic needs are met.

A local family-strengthening program is trying to help Sue by referring her to other agencies for help. But with so many other families seeking assistance, she has been unable to get the help she needs.

The children, aged 5 and 11, are helping their mother with the English language and are being supportive of her the best they can. The youngsters are bright and humorous and play well together. Johnnie, the older child, enjoys sports, video games and art. Judy loves dolls, puzzles and playing with her friends in the neighborhood.

The family is making the best of their lives, despite their current situation. Sue does a great job keeping their trailer clean, but it could use some general repair. Your generous donation can help provide some basic necessities for this struggling family and give them hope that there are people who care about their well-being.

Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Coastal Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at www.goodcheerfund.com.
