A charter school open to students across the Lowcountry that targets gifted and talented students is accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year.

Palmetto Scholars Academy is in North Charleston, but any South Carolina sixth- through 11th-grade student can apply. The school was rated a perfect 100 under the federal accountability system, and it earned an “excellent” rating on its state report card.

A lottery will be held for each grade level that has more applications than spaces available. All applications received by midnight on Feb. 8 will be eligible for the lottery.

The school will host eight open houses for potential students and their families at its campus, 2415 Avenue F. Those dates and times include: 10 a.m. Jan. 5; 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10; 10 a.m. Jan. 12; 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15; 10 a.m. Jan. 19; 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23; 10 a.m Jan. 26.; and 10 a.m. Feb. 2.
