Vancouver Whitecaps FC to play in Carolina Challenge Cup
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC committed to play in next year’s Carolina Challenge Cup.
The Whitecaps join the Chicago Fire in the week-long event at Blackbaud Stadium. The tournament will be played from Feb. 16-23.
This will be the first time the Whitecaps have played in the Challenge Cup. The Whitecaps joined the MLS in 2011 and in 2012 became the first Canadian MLS side to advance to the playoffs.
Vancouver’s roster features U.S. national team defender Jay DeMerit and MLS Rookie of the Year candidate Darren Mattocks.
