Stingrays continue road trip with 2-1 win over Toledo
Toledo, Ohio — Goal-tender Shawn Hunwick made 43 saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays defeat the Toledo Walleye, 2-1, at Huntington Center on Sunday.
The Stingrays (6-8-0-1) capitalized first when forward Matthew Pistilli caught a bouncing puck and beat Walleye goaltender Kent Simpson under the right pad at 6:23 of the first period.
Forward Dylan Clarke put the Stingrays up 2-0 at 12:10 of the middle frame from forwards Tyler McNelly and Hunter Bishop.
The Walleye (6-6-0-1) cut the lead in half at 6:11 of the third period when forward Luke Glendening knocked a loose pass over the left arm of Hunwick. The Stingrays finished the game 0 for 1 on the power play, while the Walleye went 0 for 2.
Simpson had 21 saves on 23 shots for Toledo.
South Carolina wraps up a season-long six-game road trip Tuesday against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 10:30 a.m. at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday against the Florida Everblades.
