Charleston County constituent school boards

The Charleston County constituent school board races have attracted few candidates, and no one will be listed on the ballot for the majority of its open seats.

Only four of the 23 available seats are contested, and five candidates are running unopposed. The 14 remaining spots don't have anyone running for them.

Voters will have the option of writing in candidates when no one is running for the seat, but no organization maintains a list of those running as write-ins.

Their main duties include setting attendance boundaries for schools, approving student transfers into and out of their districts, and deciding how to discipline students recommended for expulsion.

The following are the available seats and candidates listed on ballots running for the county's constituent school boards:

District 1 (McClellanville): Three seats, one candidate (Erma Harrell).

District 2 (Mount Pleasant): Three seats, one candidate (Marty Belk).

District 3 (James Island): Two seats, no candidates.

District 4 (North Charleston): Four seats, one candidate (Lala Fyall).

District 9 (Johns Island): Two seats, one candidate (Leon Green).

District 10 (West Ashley): Two seats, one candidate (Rodney Lewis).

District 20 (downtown): Three seats, no candidates.

District 23 (Hollywood): Four seats, six candidates (Blanche Bowens, Marvin Bowens, Josephine Matthews, Francenia Nelson, LeRoy Seabrook, Richmond Truesdale).
