No. 15 Clemson tops Georgia Tech in shootout

CLEMSON – DeAndre Hopkins and Tajh Boyd continued their assaults on the Clemson record books to help the No. 15 Tigers to a 47-31 win over Georgia Tech (2-4, 1-3 ACC) Saturday, a Georgia Tech teamthat had defeated Clemson (5-1, 2-1) in four of their previous five meetings.

Hopkins caught seven passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, his fourth 100-yard game of the season. No Clemson player has ever averaged 100 receiving yards per game but Hopkins has totaled 777 yards in six games this season.

Boyd totaled 463 yards of offense from scrimmage. The junior quarterback completed 26 of 41 passes for 395 yards. He threw two touchdowns to give him 51 for his career, which broke the program record held by Charlie Whitehurst (49).

Hopkins and Boyd needed to continue their stellar campaigns as the Clemson defense continue its struggles in general, and specifically against Georgia Tech.

Clemson allowed 485 yards of offense to Georgia Tech and 340 yard on the ground.

Clemson trailed 31-30 early in the fourth quarter but Clemson responded with a scoring drive capped by Hopkins 35-yard scoring pass from Boyd and Clemson’s defense recorded a safety on the next possession to make it a two-possession game,

The team two teams combined for 1,084 yards, the most in a game in Clemson history. Clemson totaled 601 yards of total offense.
