2 convicted of killing Spartanburg man for gold
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Two people have been convicted of killing a Spartanburg man last year to take his gold dental work and other items.
A Spartanburg County jury deliberated about six hours Thursday before returning guilty verdicts against 19-year-old Charleston Anderson Jr., and 27-year-old Lauri Danielle Hollis, both of Spartanburg.
Twenty-three-year-old Steve Duran Means was robbed and killed on April 7, 2011, outside an apartment complex.
Circuit Judge Roger Couch sentenced Anderson to life in prison. Hollis was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Defense attorneys had questioned the credibility of one of the state’s key witnesses and the way Spartanburg police investigated the killing.
Prosecutor Abel Gray says Means was targeted by the suspects because they considered him a snitch.
The gun was found at Anderson’s home.
