ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Charleston Battery advanced to the USL PRO championship game with a penalty-shootout victory over Rochester tonight.
The Battery will host the Wilmington Hammerheads in the title match at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Blackbaud Stadium. Wilmington knocked off No. 1 seed Orlando, 4-3, in the playoffs.
Charleston’s Tony Donatelli headed in a goal in the final minute of regulation to tie the match at 1-1. After 30 minutes of scoreless overtime, it took seven rounds of penalty kicks to decide it, with J.C. Mack burying the winning kick in the roof of the net.
Battery keeper Andrew Dykstra, on loan from D.C. United of Major League Soccer, made three saves during the shootout.
Tickets for the championship game go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday.
