MOUNT PLEASANT — A coyote surprised a bicyclist on Harry Hallman Boulevard this morning, the latest among recurring sightings of the newly resident animals in this suburban town.
The coyote stepped from the woods onto the sidewalk as Mike Mitchell pedaled down from biking the Cooper River bridge, gazed at him and then loped away before slipping back in the brush.
Two years after making an effort to trap coyotes after complaints of them attacking dogs in the Patriots Point area, Mount Pleasant police still hear of sporadic sightings there and elsewhere in town, said Maj. Stan Gragg. But police have had no recent complaints, he sad.
“I’ve seen them a couple of times. They’re real skitterish,” he said.
