Man with knife robs cellphone store near Summerville, drops cash as he flees
A knife-wielding man who robbed a Summerville-area cellphone store Wednesday dropped cash as he tried to run away, according to authorities in Dorchester County.
A suspect, who wasn’t identified, was detained after a resident spotted him flee into a home, but it wasn’t yet known if he was the robber, according to Maj. John Garrison of the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident at the Cricket Wireless at 1001 Bacons Bridge Road was reported at 10:47 a.m. The store is in a plaza near the Old Trolley Road intersection.
Garrison said the man entered the store and brandished a knife. No one was hurt.
Sheriff’s cruisers swarmed the area and parked along Bacons Bridge Road.
Deputies reported that a man was running down Danberry Drive, just south of the store, where he was detained about 10 minutes after the robbery. A lieutenant at the scene said the man was dropping cash as he fled.
Authorities recovered some of the cash and a shirt. Crime-scene investigators were seen searching near some mobile homes on Danberry Drive.
