Southern Miss guard LaShay Page to transfer to South Carolina
Southern Miss guard LaShay Page of Latta will transfer to South Carolina.
Page (6-2, 190) made his commitment to the Gamecocks on Saturday morning after wrapping up an official visit.
“It’s great being an in-state kid to have the opportunity to come back and have my family see me play,” Page said. “I’m also thrilled about having the opportunity to play for Frank Martin and turning the South Carolina program around.”
Page will still need to get a waiver from the SEC to allow him to play right away. He will graduate from Southern Miss after completing a couple of courses this summer, but a year ago, the SEC changed its rule and banned one-year transfer graduate students. But Page has overriding family issues. His mother died in February, and he has a 5-year-old daughter in Marion and is hopeful of relief.
Page, who played at Dillon, spent one season at Chipola Junior College (Fla.) before moving to Southern Miss, for the past two seasons. He averaged 12 points per game last season in helping his team reach the NCAA tournament, where they lost to Martin’s Kansas State team in the second round. Page scored 16 points in that game.
