Kiawah golf professional offers training ground for junior tournament golfers
Dale Mercer has worked with plenty of junior golfers, both as a teaching professional at the Kiawah Island Club’s Cassique and coaching at Porter-Gaud School.
And one of his observations was that while many junior players had talent, they were not prepared for competitive golf.
Thus was born the Carolina Prep Golf Tour, an eight-week series played at numerous area golf courses.
“This is for middle and high school golfers, and we have boys and girls competing in age groups 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18,” Mercer said, noting that 18-year-olds must be rising high school seniors.
“We want them to be able to gain experience at an affordable rate.”
The tournaments cost $60. There are six events remaining on the schedule: June 19, Wild Dunes Harbor; June 26, Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Oak Point; July 10, Pine Forest; July 17, Patriots Point; July 24, the Links at Stono Ferry; and July 31, Shadowmoss.
