Two in custody, third escapes into movie theater after chase near Summerville
Deputies and federal marshals in the Summerville area searched a movie theater for one of three men who ran away as the authorities tried to serve an arrest warrant this morning.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service were planning to make an arrest at a home on North Palmetto Street, according to sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison. Deputies said a man there was wanted on a kidnapping charge, as well as other counts.
Around 10 a.m., however, the authorities tried to stop a car connected with their case, a dark-gray Toyota Corolla. It wasn’t immediately known when the suspect they were trying to arrest got into the car.
The vehicle sped down the Berlin G. Myers Parkway and eventually stopped near the Wasabi of Summerville restaurant on Berkeley Circle.
Deputies managed to catch two of the men, including the suspect wanted by the marshals, but a third ran into Regal Azalea Square Stadium 16, which is in Berkeley County.
The man who ran into the theater, which contained children, was not wanted on any charges other than running from the police, Garrison said. He was not immediately found.
None of the two men in custody were named. No further information about the suspect’s charges was available.
