Canadian geese found dead in Mount Pleasant
A storm drainage pond in Mount Pleasant’s Ivy Hall subdivision was marked off with yellow crime scene tape Sunday after a number of dead Canada geese were found along the water’s edge.
“We have no idea how they got sick and died,” said Cpl. Julius Buncum of the Mount Pleasant Police Department. He said there were five dead geese and one that was very sick.
Officers and residents tried to coax the sick goose into a box so it could be taken to an emergency veterinary hospital, but the goose fought the idea so officers had to leave it there, Buncum said.
As a precaution, the pond was being marked off so officials from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control could visit the scene on Monday and try to determine how the birds died, Buncum said.
Bob Lang, who is on the board of the Ivy Hall homeowner’s association, said geese have been coming to the pond during the day for about a year.
The pond is at the intersection of Seaborn Drive and Gilead Road in Ivy Hall, across U.S. Highway 17 from the Walmart SuperCenter.
