Nothing beats a picnic and a show.

Head on down to the Footlight Players Theatre today at noon for Brown Bag and Ballet. You’ll have to trade a picnic blanket for theater seats and ballet by the Charleston Ballet Theatre. Pack a lunch and enjoy this annual Piccolo Spoleto tradition.

The 60-minute program features the work of titans and locals both. “Who Cares?” by George Balanchine; “Poetry with a Splash of Red Blood” by Jill Eathorne Bahr; and “Bolero” by Helena Baron are some of the best ballet has to offer.

This program is one-of-a-kind as the Charleston Ballet Theatre is the only dance company in South Carolina licensed to perform Balanchine choreography.

Given the sophisticated nature of the content, this production is best suited to children who are dance-savvy. The aspiring ballerina in your family will gawk at the majesty of these landmark performances. Just make sure her mouth isn’t full.

Recommendation: Brown Bag and Ballet, noon today, Footlight Players Theatre, 20 Queen St.
