Citadel clinches spot in SoCon baseball tourney with 7-0 win over Furman

Tyler Griffin hit a grand slam and Austin Pritcher struck out seven batters over seven shutout innings to lead The Citadel to a 7-0 win over Furman tonight in college baseball at Riley Park.

Griffin added a triple to his second career grand slam, while Pritcher improved to 6-4 on the season for the Bulldogs (23-27, 12-13 Southern Conference). Furman is 22-27 overall and 9-16 in the league heading into Saturday’s 2 p.m. game.

With the win, and a loss by UNC Greensboro, the Bulldogs clinch a berth in the SoCon tournament set for May 23-27 in Greenville.

Pritcher scattered five hits while walking only two. Zach Sherrill worked two shutout innings of relief, while Bo Thompson and Bailey Rush each had two hits for The Citadel.
