2 youth charged with Orangeburg school vandalism
ORANGEBURG – Two juveniles have been arrested and charged with vandalism that closed Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School for a day.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell says the vandals caused more than $10,000 in damage at the school, which was closed Monday.
Ravenell says the youngsters entered the school Sunday night and damaged windows in the school, ripped out surveillance equipment and stole electronics during a five-hour period.
Each of the juveniles is charged with second-degree burglary, grand larceny and malicious injury to personal property over $10,000. Their names have not been released because of their age.
Authorities were alerted by a fire alarm at the school.
Students were sent home Monday while investigators gathered evidence and repaired the damage.
Classes were scheduled to resume Tuesday.
