Episcopal Relief President Robert Radtke to speak at Grace Churchs services this Sunday
Robert Radtke, president of Episcopal Relief and Development, will speak during all three services at Grace Episcopal Church this Sunday, and at the adult forum.
Grace Church is located at 98 Wentworth St. It’s 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. services are in the church’s Hanahan Hall; its 11:15 Choral Eucharist service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 89 Hasell St.
Episcopal Relief and Development is The Episcopal Church’s charity and outreach arm which is active in more than 40 countries. Programming is focused on alleviating hunger and improving food access, creating economic opportunities that strengthen communities, promoting health and responding to disasters. Radtke has served as president since 2005.
Because April 25 is Worldwide Malaria Awareness Day, Radtke will discuss the need for insecticide-treated mosquito nets in parts of Africa. Malaria deaths, especially among children, are common. A $12 net makes a big difference. The Nets for Life Fund, of which ER&D was a founding partner, has distributed over 8 million nets. The goal for 2012 is to raise $5 million.
