BLESSING OF THE FLEET WEEK

The town of Mount Pleasant is holding a number of events during Fleet Week leading up to Sunday’s Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival at Waterfront Memorial Park.

Wine and Design Painting on the Pier: 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at Memorial Waterfront Park Pier. Paint your own masterpiece with step-by-step instruction. Wine and Design has created a new painting especially for the Blessing of the Fleet. No experience necessary. Refreshments will be available. $40. Free Shag Lessons on the Pier: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Waterfront Park Pier. Mary Kennerty, director of Mount Pleasant Junior Cotillions and a business etiquette consultant, will teach the Charleston shag on the pier.

Starlight Pops Concert: Charleston Symphony Orchestra Saturday at The Grove at Patriots Point. Bring beach chairs/blankets and a picnic. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with picnic judging at 7 p.m. and a sunset show. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets are on sale in all area First Federal offices and at firstfederal.com. $15 adults, $10 First Federal customers (in-bank purchase only), $5 children.

Shaggin’ on the Cooper: 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Waterfront Park Pier (gates open at 7 p.m.). Classic oldies and beach music by Local Motion. Beverages available for purchase on site. $10 per person (only 800 tickets available). Call 795-4386 or visit ccprc.com.
