Wando boys and girls dominate Charleston County track and field championships
The Wando boys and girls continue to be champions of the Charleston County track and field world.
The team easily won the county championships, which concluded Thursday at West Ashley High School.
The Warrior girls posted a 241-1341/2 victory over James Island. West Ashley was third with 901/2 points.
Wando’s Lucy Rummler set the county record with a time of 2:20.36 in the 600-meter run, while teammate Georgia Compton set the record in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:20.35. The Warriors had four first-place finishes Thursday.
James Island’s Makayla Stanley was named the track MVP by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes with respective times of 12.66 and 26.89.
The Wando boys were just as impressive, scoring 252 points, 100 more than second-place finisher West Ashley. James Island finished in third place with 102 points.
Wando’s Jayce Almes was named the track MVP with victories in both hurdle events. The Warriors earned seven gold medals on the second day of the meet.
Berkeley meet
The Berkeley County meet was canceled Thursday because of rain. The meet will not be rescheduled. The one-day meet was scheduled for Wednesday but only four events were completed when lightning and rain forced a postponement to Thursday. But bad weather wiped out Thursday’s events.
