Calypso St. Barth, first of three new upscale shops on King Street, will open Friday
Calypso St. Barth, luxury retailer and designer of women's fashions, accessories and home goods, will bow at the Shops at Charleston Place at 234 King St. in downtown Charleston on Friday. It's the 33rd store for the fashion chain that launched its first shop in 1992 in St. Barth in the French West Indies.
“Charleston was the natural next home for the brand as the city captures the relaxed and effortless style that our customers seek,” said Stefanie DiRienzo Smith, Calypso's president.
The boutique will offer the brand's namesake collection of women's fashions and accessories, carefully curated pieces from international designers and a special selection of design collaborations.
The shop will be located in the former Talbots. Two other chains will join Calypso St. Barth in that space, handbag and accessories chain Kate Spade and casual boat-shoe retailer Sperry Top-Sider.
Phoning in
The growth and popularity of smartphones and tablet devices inevitably means there are going to be more glitches that need repairs.
MyPhoneMD, which opened in 2010 at 471 King St. in downtown Charleston to repair the mobile devices, has experienced so much business, it will open a second location around June 1 in Northwoods Marketplace on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. Also, the business is now targeting device repair for large corporations, according to Sam Whetsel of myPhoneMD.
Teen-age dream
Teen merchandiser Aeropostale is now open at Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston. It carries men's and women's apparel as well as accessories and is located near Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth.
Nail growth
Another nail salon is opening in Mount Pleasant. Angel's Nails will open soon in Anna Knapp Plaza on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.
This will be the fourth salon to open in Mount Pleasant in about a month.
Southern search
Charlotte-based Belk Inc., the nation's largest privately owned mainline department store company, is seeking Southern designers of apparel, shoes and women's accessories to add to its collection of brands for its Southern Designer Showcase.
