Man charged with murder in 2009 shooting of Colleton County woman
Colleton County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man accused of killing a 42-year-old woman at her home nearly three years ago.
James William Campbell, 41, was charged this morning with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the May 24, 2009, slaying of Marlene Linder at her Briarleaf Circle home, according to Sheriff George Malone.
Linder was shot twice with a shotgun about 3:30 a.m. as she was trying to get inside her home, investigators said at the time. Her 16-year-old son discovered her body just outside the front door.
Deputies picked up Campbell from the federal prison in Estill Friday where he was serving time on federal weapons violations since shortly after the slaying, Malone said in a release. Campbell was reportedly an ex-boyfriend of Linder’s, he said.
Campbell was denied bail at a bond hearing this morning.
