Clemson RB Bellamy returns from suspension, will practice Wednesday
CLEMSON – Sophomore running back Mike Bellamy will participate in Clemson’s first spring practice Wednesday, coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday.
Bellamy was indefinitely suspended after violating an undisclosed team rule prior to the ACC title game in December.
“He’s been doing OK,” Swinney said. “This is a big spring for him.”
Bellamy entered as a five-star recruit last season but struggled to absorb the playbook and to hang onto the football in addition to his off-the-field issues. Swinney is also hoping the rail-thin Bellamy becomes stronger, putting 186 pounds as a weight goal for Bellamy this offseason. Bellamy, who can run a sub 4.4 40-yard dash, played at 168 pounds last year.
Bellamy is a critical player for Clemson as the Tigers do not have a proven No. 2 back behind starter Andre Ellington, who has missed time each of the two years with injuries.
